Understanding vegetation response to climate variability from space with hyper-spectral, multi-angular observations

چکیده

The dimensionality of hyper-spectral, multi-angular radiometric data carries the potential of providing accurate observations of multiple variables to characterize the soil – vegetation atmosphere system. This potential has been explored during the period 1997 – 2005 towards the definition of a land mission by the European Space Agency ESA).

آشکارسازی تغییرات بارش‌های حدی و نسبت دهی به تغییر اقلیم با استفاده از روش استاندارد انگشت نگاشت بهینه (مطالعه موردی : جنوب غرب ایران)

Understanding the changes in extreme precipitation over a region is very important for adaptation strategies to climate change. One of the most important topics in this field is detection and attribution of climate change. Over the past two decades, there has been an increasing interest for scientists, engineers and policy makers to study about the effects of external forcing to the climatic va...

Multi-angular Satellite Remote Sensing and Forest Inventory Data for Carbon Stock and Sink Capacity in the Eastern United States Forest Ecosystems

Terrestrial vegetation plays a major role in regulating the global carbon cycle and in turn the climate of the Earth system. It is believed that the North America forest ecosystems are a net sink for anthropogenic carbon. However, significant uncertainties exist in quantifying this claim. Inaccurate and incomplete characterization of forest vegetation is among the main causes to these uncertain...

The Earth Observation Mission Carbon-3d – a Synergetic Multi- Sensor Approach to Global Biomass Mapping for an Improved Understanding of the Co2 Balance

To estimate the potential impact of global climate change an improved knowledge of the carbon cycle and its variability is essential. In response to an announcement of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) for a national Earth observation mission, the FriedrichSchiller University Jena and the JenaOptronik GmbH proposed the EO-mission CARBON-3D. The data products of this multi sensor mission will fo...

Angular Unmixing of Photosynthetic and Non-photosynthetic Vegetation within a Coniferous Forest Using Chris-proba

Estimating forest variables, such as photosynthetic light use efficiency, from satellite reflectance data requires understanding the contribution of photosynthetic vegetation (PV) and nonphotosynthetic vegetation (NPV). The fractions of PV and NPV present in vegetation reflectance data are typically controlled by the canopy structure and the respective viewing angle. The persistent but highly v...

Banded vegetation in some Australian semi-arid landscapes: 20 years of field observations to support the development and evaluation of numerical models of vegetation pattern evolution

Periodic vegetation patterns (PVPs) are striking features of many global drylands. Although they have attracted wide research study, resulting in many hypotheses, their origin and controlling factors remain unresolved. Theoretical works dominate a large literature seeking to account for the occurrence and properties of PVPs, especially banded vegetation patterns (‘tiger bush’). In light of...
